POLIOMYLETIS ON VACCINATED CHILDREN

Abstract
We have observed 42 acute poliomyelitis cases in a year of 1967. It is known that the first polio vaccination in Korea started in the year of 1958.
We have not found any difference in the mode of onset, symptoms, incidences, etc. of the poliomyelitis compared with that of 1957. Among 42 cases of 1967, 25 cases(59.5%) had past history of polio vaccination. It is thought that this incidence percentage of vaccinated cases is rather too high compared with others.
This is probably becauseof vaccination was carried out ¨ç whithout systemic nation wide plan, ¨è on only small number of the applicable age group, ¨é without regularity or the booster doses, and ¨ê possible errors in the management of the vaccines.
There is no doubt that poliomyelitis frequently results severe crippling and this must be prevented. Since the polio incidence among the vaccinated children is so high, we would like to suggest to the officials to reevaluate the total procedure of the polio vaccination and obtain its best results.
